Motor City Drum Ensemble’s Raw Cuts get remixed
Marcellus Pittman, Mike Huckaby and Recloose step up to rework some classic Danilo Plessow material.
Danilo Plessow (pictured above) came to prominence in 2008 with the first of his self-released Raw Cuts series, and the producer’s part in turning numerous copycat producers onto a similarly raw, dusty, sample-based sound in the years that have passed should not be underestimated. Although his output has tailed off in recent times, last year saw Plessow release the Send A Prayer EP which featured four all-new tracks released through his MCDE imprint. News now arrives of the label’s next release, which will provide the label’s first all-remix release.
Although John Roberts remixed Plessow’s “Monorail” back in 2011, the label has wisely steered clear of remix-focused releases, but the Raw Cuts Remixes 12″ looks to have an impressive and appropriate list of producers lined up to tackle material from the Raw Cuts series. Although the remix from Rush Hour artist Recloose slipped out last year with early news of the project, equally as exciting is the news that Plessow has also tapped Recloose’s fellow Detroit royalty Marcellus Pittman and Mike Huckaby to round out the line up. Previews of all three remixes are available to stream below ahead of its release in May.
MCDE Recordings will release Raw Cuts Remixed on 12″ vinyl on May 7.
