Don’t Be Afraid present Halvtrak collection
An addendum to the Finnish producer’s debut for the label will be released on limited cassette later this month.
In terms of musical impact, Don’t Be Afraid had a pretty unsurpassable 2013, and among their various releases from the likes of MGUN, Mr Beatnick, and Neville Watson the label debut of Max Headroom fan Halvtrak was something of a curio. Arriving in October, the four track Dust Under Bridges 12” was the Tampere-based producer’s debut offering as far as we can tell and was accompanied by the minimum of additional information, other than it was Halvtrak’s own unique spin on Chicago house. The music itself was a playfully sinister blend of deep analogue bass and restless sci-fi melodies and certainly some of the oddest the label has released to date.
News now arrives that Don’t Be Afraid plan to issue an addendum release of “earlier experiments which, whilst not aiming squarely at the dancefloor, shine further light on this fresh producer’s eccentric approach”. Entitled Dust Under Bridges (Appendix i/ii), the nine track set will arrive at the end of the month in limited cassette format as well as being released for free via Bandcamp. Interested parties intrigued by the Halvtrak sound can indulge fully now with a complete stream of the set below, with the music curiously suited to the tape format.
Don’t Be Afraid will release Dust Under Bridges (Appendix i/ii) by Halvtrak on March 31.
