RVNG Intl go doom metal with new LP from The Body

The Portland-based duo team up with The Haxan Cloak to record I Shall Die Here which is due in April.

The New York-based RVNG Intl has been partial to the odd left turn over the course of its ten year release history, the Sensations Fix reissue and the super rare Clean Plate LP from Pink Skull stand out, whilst the FRKWYS series is full of left-leaning kinks. It would seem however that none of this can prepare you for what they have in store with The Body, the extreme doom metal project of Chip King and Lee Buford.

As you might expect doom metal is not really a genre of music that gets a lot of air time on the Juno Plus office stereo, but The Body arise on RVNG following a string of cross format releases, and a decade’s worth of brutalising eardrums as part of the Providence, RI noise scene. With interest apparently piqued by the combination of classical choral harmonies and industrial weight sonic loathing shown on The Body’s acclaimed second LP All The Waters Of The Earth Turn To Blood, RVNG Intl boss Matt Werth sought out Buford and King to gauge whether they’d be interested in working with an electronic musician.

The pair chose The Haxan Cloak, whose own work for Tri Angle has shown a similarly deathly approach, and the results of their union can be heard on the forthcoming LP I Shall Die Here. Due out in April, the six-track album is described as sharing similar nether space with The Haxan Cloak’s 2013 LP Excavations “but remains sculpturally frozen in a sort of earthen purgatory”. A ‘visual single’ for album track “Hail To Thee, Everlasting Pain” can be viewed below and should set the tone perfectly for what to expect from the upcoming record.

RVNG Intl will release I Shall Die Here by The Body on April 1.
