Kangding Ray returns with fourth album

Raster-Noton will issue Solens Arc by the Berlin-based producer next month.

Since his emergence under the Kangding Ray name some seven years ago, David Letellier has become synonymous with latter day Raster-Noton. Across his debut album Stabil, subsequent two albums and a smattering of 12″s for Raster-Noton, Letellier has demonstrated a continually developing approach to techno that is both futuristic and classically informed. Given his approach, it’s little surprise that Kangding Ray has become an increasingly prominent figure within the Stroboscopic Artefacts release schedule.

Due for release next month, Solens Arc sees Ray return to the album format almost three years after his third long player OR, and consists of 12 tracks assembled in the form of four ‘arcs’, one for each side of the double LP. A press release from the label states the album consists of different sequences that “are arranged seamlessly into dense, evolving compositions, while keeping their autonomy, and their role in the global dramaturgy.” In addition to the standard double LP edition that will be widely available, Raster-Noton will also issue a special limited edition of Solens Arc available direct from the label, with Letellier promising “the cover will look amazing”.

A video for LP-track “History Of Obscurity” can be viewed below and offers some hint as to how Solens Arc is shaping up.

Raster-Noton will release Solens Arc by Kangding Ray in Double LP and CD format on February 24.
