Sound Signature debut Jay Daniel
Preview the first release from the up-and-coming Detroit local on Theo Parrish’s label.
The release of Jay Daniel’s debut EP – entitled Scorpio Rising – will be the second time in two years that Theo Parrish has gifted a new producer the chance to release on his label after uncovering London-based producer Andrew Ashong. The Washington DC-born, Detroit-bred producer moved to the Motor City when he was two, honing his craft as a DJ since the age of 19 – with Boiler Room saying of his prowess behind the decks during last year’s Movement festival: “one of the most exciting new discoveries we made in Detroit. Jay Daniel is officially our new favourite DJ”.
Currently a resident at Fundamentals alongside Kyle Hall, Daniel evidently has electronic music in his blood, with his mother, Naomi Daniel, releasing two Carl Craig-produced EPs on Planet E sub-label I Ner Zon Sounds 20 years ago. Daniel joins the likes of Detroit luminaries Marcellus Pittman, Omar S and Specter to release on Sound Signature, and does so with an impressive four-track EP that combines rugged, dusty drum tracks with buzzing analogue static and signature Detroit melodies inspired by the likes of Delano Smith and the late Aaron Carl.
