Fuck Buttons return with Slow Focus

Benjamin John Power and Andrew Hung will release their third studio album Slow Focus through ATP Recordings in July.

The news marks the first new Fuck Buttons material in some four years, with both members recently engaged in solo endeavours to differing degrees – Power has been busy recording under the Blanck Mass name releasing a self-titled album in 2011 plus further material for OPN’s Software label. Interestingly, the forthcoming seven track album marks the first time Power and Hung have completed a long player without outside assistance – Mogwai’s John Cummings oversaw their 2008 debut album Street Horrrsing whilst revered Alan Moore lookalike Andrew Weatherall worked his magic on their excellent follow-up Tarot Sport.

Hung and Power seem to have embraced this new way of working, with the former describing the use of producers in the past as “a safety net”, stating they have “always had a very specific idea of what our music should sound like and so it became about following the logical path.” How that manifests itself on Slow Focus is yet to be revealed, though the ATP press release ambitiously claims it is a “first-person view through winding pathways set against a frequently aggressive and constantly evolving terrain”.

ATP Recordings will release Slow Focus by Fuck Buttons on July 22.
