Carl Craig joins the Masterpiece ranks

Carl Craig is the latest high profile producer to contribute to Ministry Of Sound’s mix series Masterpiece.

The news sees the Planet E boss join Andrew Weatherall, Gilles Peterson, Fabio & Grooverider and Francois K to be invited to partake in Ministry Of Sound’s grandiose Masterpiece concept. The series plays out over three discs, with MOS asking its chosen artists to draw upon separate influences and inspirations for each mix.

A tracklisting for the triple CD mix is yet to surface, though the label have stated that the first CD sees Carl Craig focus on showcasing sounds inspiring him of late, with the penultimate disc devoted entirely to tracks used in his recent club sets. Excitingly, the third mix will be comprised entirely of new compositions made exclusively for the release.

Furthermore, Craig’s relationship with radio is said to have played a strong role in his approach to curating his Masterpiece, with the Detroit luminary saying “even though all of my professional career I’ve been traveling around the world and my scope of music is very global, how I listen to music is still very rooted to how I listen to radio, how it is now, and how it was in Detroit when I was growing up”. It’s the first official mix from Craig since Sessions for the Berlin label !K7 in 2008, completely made up of Craig’s own recordings, remixes and edits either as himself or as his Paperclip People and 69 aliases.

Ministry Of Sound will release Masterpiece by Carl Craig in June.
