Preview Dark Sky’s Mister Saturday Night release

Mister Saturday Night have revealed details of their next release, an unexpectedly house-centric turn from London trio Dark Sky.

Best known for their bass-heavy club tackle for labels such as 50 Weapons, Tectonic and Black Acre, NTS residents Dark Sky have been one of the more reliable outfits straddling the divide between dubstep and techno in recent years, resisting the urge to pare down their dense yet rubbery, syncopated sound in line with the UK bass scene’s inexorable move towards tech-house mediocrity.

It comes as some surprise then that their next release should come on the Mister Saturday Night label, an imprint more associated with the house and techno of NYC than dark, severe sounds of the UK’s ever fracturing scene. However, the In Brackets EP sees the trio demonstrate a more sensitive side to their sound; the title track recalls the sample-heavy electronica of early Four Tet paired with some powerful low-end, while the jazzy freeform house of “5am” has all the breezy funk of a Floating Points production – though all four tracks have that heft to them is unmistakably the hand of Dark Sky.

No official release date has been announced, but all four tracks can be previewed below.
