Familiarise yourself with the new Coober Pedy University Band

Join the Kinfolk label on a journey to the “krautback” in the company of the Coober Pedy University Band, Tornado Wallace’s new side project .

Tornado Wallace aka Lewie Day and production partner Tom Moore draw upon the South Australian outback town Coober Pedy as inspiration for their new mid-tempo collaborations. Our in-house Australian fact machine reliably informs us Coober Peby is renowned for its opal mines (not its university – it doesn’t even have one) and below-ground residences called “dugouts”, which are built due to the scorching daytime heat,

Due for release on the emergent Kinfolk label run by Soft Rocks, the forthcoming 10″ sees the duo look to influence a revival of the long forgotten 1970s Space Western via a heady combination of drum machines, dusted down synths and heavily effected guitars. It follows on from Tornado Wallace’s recently released Thinking Aloud EP on ESP Institute and his new balearic exploration features the vocals of Australian heartthrob Chet Faker along with a self styled “needless remix” from label bosses and fellow ESP Institute classmates Soft Rocks.
