Listen to the new Jiaolong release from Shangaan originator Nozinja

Dan Snaith’s Jiaolong imprint will follow up Jeremy Greenspan’s reworking of Laurie Spiegel with a 12″ of Shangaan electro from Nozinja alias Xitsonga Dance.

It’s almost three years since Honest Jon’s released the original Shangaan Electro compilation, a collection of niche Sowetan dance music compiled by Honest Jon’s boss Mark Ainley and Basic Channel’s Mark Ernestus. Since then, the compilation has spawned its own highly successful remix compilation, but internationally released output from the scene’s core figures has dropped off since the original collection of 180bpm, marimba-powered neon dance music.

Now Caribou and Daphni mastermind Dan Snaith has announced details of a forthcoming 12″ for his Jiaolong label from Xitsonga Dance, an alias of Nozinja, the producer originally responsible for creating the Shangaan sound. The single, which can be streamed below is everything you’d expect – completely barmy keyboard tones, demo track beats and infectious melodies combined with pitched vocals, and, on “Hoza” the sound of a barking dog. Really.

No release date has been announced, but we’d expect it to be released on 12″ vinyl soon.
