Four Tet announces surprise new album
Kieran Hebden has sent the internet into meltdown by announcing surprise details of his second Four Tet album in a year via Twitter and Facebook.
Entitled 0181, the album was revealed via a surprise announcement made by Hebden on his social networks this morning, with little information other than a title and a catalogue number – TEXT021. Now the producer has uploaded the album in its entirety to his Soundcloud page for free download; supposedly made up of material produced by Hebden between 1997 and 2001, it explains the album’s numerical title – which was the local telephone area code for outer London during this era.
It comes only five months after the release of Pink – the producer’s first album for over two years – which was unveiled in similarly low-key fashion in August. Like 0181, Pink was more of a compilation than album proper, collecting the vinyl-only 12″ releases Hebden put out through his Text label over the preceding 18 months, and though this new release may not be the brand new Four Tet album people may have hoped for, there are many fans who will be more than happy to hear unreleased Hebden material from the Dialogue era.
0181 can be downloaded freely below; Hebden promises a vinyl version of the LP on his Text imprint “soon”.
