Mike Simonetti’s New Jersey label annnounces Nacho Patrol release

Danny Wolfers will adopt his Nacho Patrol guise for the next release on Mike Simonetti’s recently minted New Jersey imprint.

Wolfers has been on typically relentless form this year, appearing on all manner of labels under a number of aliases and collaborative projects – the latest being two Westside Box Savants 12″s for Bunker sub label Panzerkreuz. Clearly not looking to slow down, January will see Wolfers add Mike Simonetti’s fledgling New Jersey label to his Nacho Patrol roll of honour with the Cimmerian Funk EP. The Nacho Patrol guise is used to loosely explore African music, fusing afrobeat rhythms with elements of cosmic and italo disco, the results of which are rendered in his thick analogue style and have largely surfaced on Dutch label Kindred Spirits and the Australian M Division imprint.

New Jersey launched earlier this year as a “low-key outlet for dancefloor friendly music” with Simonetti himself and Monty Luke at the helm on a debut release under the Billions & Billions moniker. Naturally a secondary concern to the disco flecked behemoth Italians Do It Better, the news of a Nacho Patrol release comes as a welcome surprise not least because of the marked contrast to the relatively straight up deep house cuts on the first record.

As with all of Wolfers’ aliases, the production differences are fairly subjective; the EP supposedly sees Wolfers adding a “sci-fi element to the mix”, though the subtle use of African rhythms and melodic style that have characterised the Nacho Patrol identity is still present.

New Jersey will release Cimmerian Funk on 12″ on January 28, 2013.
