Listen: Beneath: Duty/Texers

Pinch’s Tectonic Recordings have revealed details of their first release of 2013, a single from UK funky producer Beneath.

One of this year’s genuine underground success stories, Beneath first showcased his uniquely dark take on UK funky on a pair of self-released, hand-stamped 12″s put out through his own No Symbols imprint. His stark productions, which take the deeper atmospherics of early dubstep and work them into the rolling template of UK funky, have provided something of an antidote to the big room takes on bass music which have dominated 2012. Perhaps unsurprisingly he caught the ear of Martin Clark, whose Keysound Recordings just released the producer’s heftiest statement to date in the form of the Illusions EP.

Now it has emerged that Beneath’s next release will be arriving on dubstep veteran Pinch’s Tectonic Recordings, something that makes sense given the appearance of the Sheffield-based producer on the Tectonic Boiler Room show earlier this year. The single consists of two typically dark rollers; “Texers” is described as “a killer Roska track circa 2010, married with the soundscapes of a 2005 Youngsta DJ set re-imagined for 2013”, with “Duty” supposedly providing “pure sonic warfare condensed into 125bpm and charged with system-punching weight”. Both tracks are available to stream in their entirety below.

Tectonic Recordings will release Duty/Texers on 12″ and digital formats on January 21, 2013.
