Stones Throw reissue Dam Funk debut

Dam Funk’s debut album Toeachizown has been reissued by Stones Throw, with the label also revealing the producer is hard at work on a follow-up.

Originally released in late 2009, Dam Funk’s debut album was an ambitious statement of his distinct brand of modern funk, brandishing some two hours worth of music exploring five different themes, with the results veering from the Juan Atkins and Prince referencing style of LATrik to Hood‘s crunchy take on G-Funk. The vinyl edition came in a tasty looking 5xLP boxset that has since sold out – hence Stones Throw’s decision to reissue the album – although this time they’ve elected to undertake a slightly different approach format wise, with each of the themed sections now available from the label’s site as separate 12″s.

Increasingly busy in the aftermath of Toeachizown, Dam Funk has this year appeared on the Ariel Pink cover version of the sublime Donnie & Joe Emerson track “Baby”, released further music on Stones Throw and revealed his own line in handheld sequencers and drum machines snappily titled the Dam Drum. A second album, tentatively named Invite the Light, is currently being worked on, while Stones Throw state news of the Dam Drum II will arrive early next year. However there’s still no definitive word on more material from that much promised Nite Funk duet with Ramona Gonzales aka Nite Jewel.
