Listen: El Kid – Labyrinths EP

El Kid is the next member of the Young Echo collective to grace the tape imprint No Corner with the soon to drop Labyrinths EP – get a taste of what to expect here.

It’s almost too difficult to keep on top of the various releases Young Echo have on the boil at the moment, but there’s a clear ingenuity and freshness to everything we manage to hear. Having previously contributed to the fledgling No Corner operation as part of Killing Sound, El Kid goes solo on Labyrinths with a quartet of improvised cuts recorded to tape that at times sound reminiscent of the crust-laden experimentalism of Basic House’s output on Opal Tapes, most notably the final track “We Need Mirrors”. Elsewhere, “Quixote” is dominated by a corrugated feeling not too dissimilar to Demdike Stare marrying their nightmarish found sounds to a skipping dub house beat.
