Matthew Styles returns to Running Back with Aji-No-Moto
Englishman Matthew Styles will follow recent Running Back 12″s from Theo Parrish and Disco Nihilist with his own EP, entitled Aji-No-Moto .
The five track release with be the producer’s second release for Gerd Janson’s imprint, following last year’s Sample & Hold EP. The Berlin based Styles, who was once upon a time label manager of Crosstown Rebels, has also released on BPitch Control, Diamond & Pearls and Dinky’s Horizontal imprint, and has a long standing reputation for being something of a DJ’s DJ.
Aji-No-Moto sees Styles turn in drum-heavy, Chicago inspired tracks, with opening cut “Montana” also coming in stripped-back ‘bonus beat’ form. B-Side track “Hot!” bristles with a vintage Chicago bassline, while the burrowing “Sixty Ways” features a breathy vocal turn from the aforementioned Dinky. The release looks set to round off yet another exemplary year for Running Back, with Janson maintaining a monthly release schedule that has seen contributions from amongst others Todd Terje, Helium Robots, Son Of Sam, Theo Parrish, Disco Nihilist as well as a debut album from Arto Mwambe man Phillip Lauer.
Running Back will release Aji-No-Moto by Matthew Styles on October 29, 2012, on digital and vinyl formats. You can listen to snippets of each track on the release via the Soundcloud player below.
