Cajual classics compiled by Strut
Strut has unveiled a forthcoming double CD compilation entitled Only 4 U that explores the formidable back catalogue of Chicago house imprint Cajual Records.
The label was founded by Curtis Alan Jones – better known as Cajmere and Green Velvet – in 1992, and went on to release a slew of classics (including the still mind bending “Percolater”, “Brighter Days” and many more) from the label boss alongside cuts from the likes of DJ Sneak, Gemini, Dajae, Glenn Underground and Johnny Fiasco. Its most prolific years were in the mid 90s, although the label remained sporadically active throughout the 2000s, relaunching in 2010 with a truck load of new “Percolater” remixes from the likes of Riva Starr, Claude Vonstroke and Major Lazer.
Strut’s compilation compiles 23 tracks that include a slew of Cajmere essentials alongside Gemini’s “If You Got To Believe In Something”, the timeless garage shuffle of Deep Sensation’s “Get Together” and more. The release follows This Ain’t Chicago, Strut’s recent homage to 1980s UK house music expertly curated by Padded Cell’s Richard Sen (reviewed here by Juno Plus scribe Matt Anniss). Like any self-respecting house music compilation, Only 4 U comes with liner notes from DJ History boffin Bill Brewster.
Strut will release Only 4 U on October 30 on double CD, double LP & digital download formats. The physical versions come with with rare photos from the Cajual archive. You can peruse the artwork and tracklisting below.
