Moodymann announces new album
Celebrated Detroit producer Kenny Dixon Jnr aka Moodymann today revealed he has a new album on the way, slated for a May 2012 release.
The above teaser video was posted on his Facebook page this morning (and subsequently spied by Resident Advisor), along with the ambiguous text: “new LP coming soon produced by moody executive producer jimmy d featuring ????” The clip is soundtracked by some mournful strings, ominous synths and what sounds like a sample of Ella Fitzgerald’s “Reaching For The Moon”.
Each of Dixon Jnr’s previous albums for Peacefrog and Planet E have gone down in house music folklore, with his last official album coming out in 2009 (Anotha Black Sunday) on his own KDJ imprint, although you have to go back to 2004’s Black Mahogani for the last time a full-length LP was released.
For many years Dixon Jnr avoided the public eye, often DJing behind a curtain, but he’s shown an increased willingness to show his face in recent times, giving interviews to Gilles Peterson and the Red Bull Music Academy (with his management) and strolling down Camden High Street crooning at passers by on the recent video for “I Got Werk”.
