Native Instruments offer Traktor controller teaser
Native Instruments have just released a teaser video of the next bespoke controller for their Traktor line of digital DJ software.
Although details at this point are scarce to say the least, the video above shows a controller which seems to be a sample trigger first and foremost. Taking the grid element of the Monome and Novation Launchpad, the as yet unnamed controller offers a 4×4 square of multicoloured buttons combined with four sliders and knobs. It also looks to be the same size as the Traktor Kontrol XI, fitting neatly beside that controller in the video and working in conjunction with it, and a whole Traktor setup.
Perhaps the most intriguing information to come from Native Instruments (via their website) is the promise of a new version of the Traktor software. Its current incarnation doesn’t really incorporate the kind of interface the controller suggests, so whether this will be a new version, or a new program running alongside Traktor, is anybody’s guess, though we’d put money on a free update to the existing system.
Of course you’d be hard pressed to find a club that could accommodate a setup of the size demonstrated (never mind the difficulty of transporting the various controllers), but given the popularity of the Kontrol XI, you can be sure that producers and DJs alike will find a variety of interesting ways to incorporate it into their sets.
Keep an eye on Juno Plus for more details as and when they appear.
