Sony DADC and PIAS implement emergency plans following London blaze

Sony DADC have resumed business following the blaze that engulfed the company’s north London warehouse and destroyed stock belonging to more than 100 independent record labels.

In a brief statement released last night by [PIAS], the company who sub-contract their physical distribution to Sony, it was revealed that operations were “back up and running” in a new control room. The warehouse, in Enfield, was destroyed by a fire lit on Monday night during the London riots.

It was also revealed that Sony DADC had identified a temporary distribution partner and hoped to resume packing and shipping orders as early as next week. The full scale of the damage, and the impact it will have on the record labels involved, has not yet been revealed.

[PIAS] chief executive Kenny Gates meanwhile released a statement today in which he said his company was “determined to come out of this setback in the best way possible”. “The PIAS team has been working around the clock to limit the damage,” he added.

“We know that the livelihood of many talented, passionate and hard working music people, artists and small and bigger labels is at stake and depend on our actions and those of Sony DADC.”

Various fund-raising efforts are already gathering momentum, and the Association Of Independent Music issued a statement asking fans to reach for their wallet to save the labels affected. More than 100 independent labels had stock at the warehouse, which services the physical distribution for [PIAS] in the UK and Ireland. The full list can be found below.
