Optimo hang up their weekly party
Optimo have announced they will no longer host weekly Hung Up! parties at Glasgow’s Sub Club, with the move to a monthly format set to take place at the end of July.
The fledgling Hung Up! night was born from the ashes of the legendary Sunday night Optimo (Espacio) parties, which ran for 12 years – that’s around 650 shows. The new format saw messrs Twitch and Wilkes invite guests down to play on a weekly basis, in an attempt to ease the burden of playing week in, week out.
However a statement posted on the Optimo Facebook page yesterday revealed that the last weekly Hung Up! party will be on July 24.
“Post Optimo we wanted to keep doing something in Glasgow, but to be honest our hearts weren’t into doing something every week” the statement read.
“While there were a handful of fantastic nights, we’d be the first to admit that overall it was a bit of a damp squib.”
Glaswegian night owls can take succour in the fact that the duo will continue to curate parties on the last Sunday of the month at Sub Club, with the first event on July 31 a celebration of 25 years of acid house. Also locked in is an all-night session with the Horse Meat Disco crew, as well as Optimo Espookio (“the best Halloween party known to zombiekind”), which might just warrant a Juno Plus weekend in Scotland.
