Mark E gets the Prins Thomas treatment
Hot on the heels of releasing Stone Breaker, Mark E’s debut album which included some real gems alongside plenty of machine funk house music filled with chug and bump, Spectral Sound have announced details of a new EP from the producer that includes the tantalising prospect of a Prins Thomas remix.
The jazzy swing and wordless soulful vocal refrains that ran through the distinct chug of “The Day” ensured that it was one of the aforementioned gems of the Birmingham based producer’s debut set, alongside the primal bliss of “Got To Get Me There” and the headnodders delight that is “Black Country Saga”.
Having been culled from the vinyl version of Stone Breaker, “The Day” is a perfect fit for release on twelve inches of vinyl then and also ripe for exploration by someone as revered as Prins Thomas. The Scandolearic deity turns in an eleven minute version infused with plenty of moog vibes, killer live drums and the merest hint of namesake Timmy Thomas which will delight his legion of fans.
Furthermore Spectral include “Special FX” a new jam from Mark E which should not be confused with the production of the same name that he released via his Merc imprint last year. The artwork for the release, as seen above, is a heavily smudged take on the distinct logo shape that adorned Stone Breaker.
Spectral will release The Day by Mark E on both vinyl and digital formats on June 21.
