Matter nightclub to reopen

London’s Matter nightclub is poised to re-open its doors following a summer closure enforced by financial difficulties.

An article posted on Resident Advisor revealed that AEG, the company that owns the O2, will take responsibility of running the 2,600 capacity venue in Greenwich, South London.

The promotion team behind Camden venue Proud (and several other nightspots around London and Brighton) are also behind the new venture. An ad job has been posted on Gumtree seeking “experienced managers at all levels”, with staff who previously worked at Matter given preference. The ad claims Matter could be up and running as early as New Year’s Eve, although the RA article suggests the venue is more likely to open in early 2011.

Matter closed its doors earlier this year, plagued by poor turnouts and difficult transport routes from central London. This dragged parent club Fabric into the mire, and the Farringdon institution briefly fell into administration before new funding was found.

The club first opened in September 2008 as a second project for owners Cameron Leslie and Keith Reilly, founders of Fabric. Before its closure, it was home to three bimonthly residencies, Hospitality (Hospital Records), RAMatter (Ram Records) and FWD>>/Rinse (Rinse FM).

More information as it comes to hand.
