Ostgut Ton turns Fünf in style

Ostgut Ton, the in-house label of (in)famous Berlin club Berghain/Panorama Bar, has announced a 2xCD compilation to celebrate its fifth birthday.

Titled Fünf, it offers two CDs worth of new material from resident DJ/producers Ben Klock (pictured above), Marcel Dettmann, Steffi, Prosumer, Norman Nodge and Tama Sumo. Shed’s “Boom Room” and Klock’s “Bear” are the joint winners of the ‘songs we want to hear most based solely on the track title’ award.

There is also a strong UK connection to the release, with tracks from SCB (aka Scuba), Luke Slater and Emika. It was the latter who came up with the novel concept for the compilation, namely taking field recordings from within the club after hours and using them as the basis for making the tracks.

Housed in the austere surroundings of a disused power station, the club has become the symbol of a new generation of house and techno sweeping through Europe. The resident DJs often release their solo material on Ostgut Ton, thus maintaining an in-house, family feel to the organisation.

The ongoing Berghain and Panorama mix CDs have proved increasingly influential, with efforts from the likes of Tama Sumo, Marcel Dettmann and Ben Klock succeeding in both reflecting and shaping the sound of contemporary house and techno. Check out the tracklisting below.
