This Week At Juno
Some big exclusives came through the Juno Download door this week, from the likes of Brodinski, Burnt Island Casuals and Jacques Renault. Over at Juno Records, meanwhile, it was all about the albums.
French new jack Brodinski dropped the Arnold Classics EP on Sinden’s fledgling Grizzly imprint, while the OTP Party Breaks Vol 2 EP showcased some killer disco edits from label co-chief Jacques Renault. The Burnt Island Casuals – aka Graeme Clark of Revenge fame and Harri of Sub Club fame – released their debut EP Scotch Hop, complete with a super cool sample from Larry Levan’s mix of Gwen Guthrie’s “Hop Scotch”.
Meanwhile flying high at the top of the charts were some sly disco edits from Jamie Jones, the new Holy Ghost EP on DFA and a lovely little number from Aussie starlet Sidwho? on Future Classic.
Over at Juno Records, it was all about the albums. LCD Soundsystem’s This Is Happening arrived, a fitting finale to James Murphy’s project, while at the other end of the career spectrum Bristol dubstep prodigy Guido released a superb debut LP on Punch Drunk. Meanwhile vinyl fetishists were kept happy by the arrival of the new Alex O Smith (aka Omar S) 12″, which plays backwards and boasts a double groove on the a-side. There were also solid 12″s from James Holden, Maxxi/Zeus and Space Dimension Controller.
As always, happy hunting…
