Machine Woman returns with Genau House

The up and coming producer debuts on Where To Now? with Kassem Mosse on remix duties.

Back in October last year, we were excited to announce the emergence of Machine Woman on Peder Mannerfelt’s label. From seemingly out of nowhere (i.e. the independent self-distributed cassette world) Anastasia Vtorova landed with the For Sweden 12”, instantly sparking interest in anyone with a predilection for tangled up electronics nailed to a groove while aiming for an organic unpredictability. Vtorova’s heritage is somewhat jumbled, being Russian-born but now Berlin-based, with a Discogs entry that links her to Nottingham, but her music quivers with a spirit of no fixed geography. Prior tape outings for Sacred Tapes, Tesla Tapes and Ono laid the foundations for her steady emergence on the radar, and now the fine arbiters of exciting oddball music Where To Now? are joining in on the fun.

Due out next month, Genau House is a three-track single loaded with all the thrill and uncertainty of a great new talent, equal parts mutant techno and fragile sensuality. The lead track, “I Can Mend Your Broken Heart”, is especially heated with Vtorova’s vocal discussing Tinder dates, whilst “Friday Night” is about beibng turned away from one of Berlin’s most famous establishments according to the musician herself. Complementing these two original productions, Leipzig’s finest Kassem Mosse has been drafted in to deliver a ten-minute revision of the A side track, creating a slow-burning delight that sits comfortably next to Vtorova’s work.

Where To Now? will release Genau House by Machine Woman on May 13.
