Ableton roll out Push 2
The popular digital audio workstation has unveiled updates to both its software and Push controller.
It was three years ago that Ableton teamed up with Akai to deliver Push, a product the company labelled as an instrument rather than controller. Much like the Native Instruments Maschine, Push allowed you to play and program beats, samples and melodies, with extra use of effects, on an hardware interface. The original Push was released with the launch of Ableton 9.0 in 2012 and this newly unveiled second version, Push 2, comes with a free 9.5 software update of Ableton Live featuring a new version of the Simpler sampler device, plus additional sounds, samples and drums, analogue-modelled filters and improved viewing of waveforms and metering.
Ableton are no longer working with Japanese company Akai in developing Push, with the Push 2 built entirely inhouse by the Berlin-based company. The overall design and usability of the Push 2 doesn’t differ radically from the original product, and this new model is said to offer new sampling workflows, redesigned pads, colour display, and a feature called Link which gives users the ability to synchronise their sessions via multiple devices over the same Wi-Fi network.
