Randomer tapped for Clone Basement Series
Clone’s dedicated darkroom series returns with Stupid Things I Do from the UK’s best drum programmer.
Inaugurated by the potent Umlaut2 cocktail that was two parts Mike Dehnert and one part Levon Vincent back in 2009, the Clone Basement Series has remained a resolutely focused outlet for gnarly, foundation-worrying techno. Initially working with a small group of European artists such as Conforce, A Made Up Sound, Dehnert and Gerd, Clone’s A&R skills proved to be ahead of the curve by welcoming UK producers Untold and Blawan into the CBS fold in late 2011. The series has slowed down in rate of transmission recently – there were only two 12″s issued last year – and Clone have sprung a surprise with the news that North Londoner Rohan Walder is next in line to contribute.
Working under the Randomer name, Walder’s clutch of 12″ records for the likes of Numbers, Hessle Audio and Hemlock Recordings have seen the producer develop into one of the UK’s foremost exponents of deranged, roughneck techno with a particular attention shown to rhythmic detail. Absent since a fourth release for Untold’s Hemlock label last autumn, Randomer’s CBS debut is set for an early July release and is called Stupid Things I Do. Available to preview below, the 12″ features new school and old school renditions of the title track and two B-side DJ tools that essentially show off how much better Walder is at programming drums than almost all of his peers.
Clone Basement Series will release the Stupid Things I Do 12″ by Randomer in early July.
