Lucy readies debut album

Stroboscopic Artefacts label chief Lucy – aka Italian producer Luca Mortellaro – will release his debut album next March, entitled Wordplay For Working Bees.

Mortellaro’s Berlin-based label has risen to prominence in 2010, with the coining of the term ‘compressed dub’ to describe SA’s unique mastering process becoming a talking point among the heads down techno fraternity.

This year SA has been in prolific form, releasing six volumes of its Monad series, three samplers and a sprinkling of 12″s from the likes of Perc, Jonas Kopp and RA favourite Xhin, while Lucy has also released his own material on Tom Bonaty’s Prologue imprint and Luke Slater’s Mote Evolver.

Wordplay for Working Bees sees Mortellaro retreat from the 4/4 techno throb, instead indulging in his passion for richly textured, deeply ambient dub techno and drone, with the influence of ambient icons Karlheinz Stockhausen and David Toop referenced in the press notes.

Many of the sounds used in the album are composed of field recordings from Berlin’s parks and streets as well as from within Lucy’s own apartment, as well as a sampled UN summit speech (as heard on “Eon”) and the voice of Swiss architect Le Corbusier on “Gas”.

Wordplay for Working Bees will be released on March 4, 2011 via Stroboscopic Artefacts. Check out the artwork and tracklisting below.
