Corker Conboy on hook up with New York’s Purelink: a “little moment of serendipity”

New 12″ marks duo’s first release for 18 years

Corker Conboy’s Adrian Corker (pictured, above) has been chatting to Juno Daily about the previously long dormant duo’s imminent 12“, which features a remix from hoty tipped New York trio Purelink.

The duo’s last release was 2006’s Three Degrees Colder (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), but when Corker contacted the trio with a view to another project, he said that Purelink had been listening to the pair’s albums.

“There was a vague idea in the back of my head to reissue In Light Of That Learnt Later since it never existed digitally,” Corker said of their 2003 debut album. “We missed the 20th anniversary last year amongst other things happening, including running two other labels.

“I contacted Purelink about doing something for one of my labels and I got a reply. They said that my contacting them was a strange coincidence since they had been listening to the Corker Conboy albums.

“Ben [Paulson] said they had discovered them since they were on Vertical Form, the same label that had released ‘Summer’ by Pub. From this little moment of serendipity came the remix. I met up with Paul (Conboy – pictured below) again who I hadn’t seen in a while and who remastered the album.

“The project originally only existed for a few years, two albums, an EP including a David Grubbs remix, some remixes by us and a score to a film by Florian Hoffmeister, who later was the cinematographer on Tar. Hopefully we will reissue more.”

The ambient post-rock fusionists’ debut album is out at the end of the month digitally, but a 12″ featuring the Purelink remix of In Light Of That Learnt Later backed by the LP’s opening track ‘In The Dust and the Haze’ is expected to drop on May 20. The Purelink remix samples multiple album tracks and is essentially a condensed remix of the album rather than a simple remix of the album track.

Since the project ended, Conboy has been better known as a prolific contributor to Bomb The Bass and more latterly teamed up with The Orb’s Alex Paterson to create Chocolate Hills.
