Juno Daily – In The Mix: s t a r g a z e

An hour of bliss from the sprawling collective

s t a r g a z e are a musical collective founded by Merle Scheske, Emanuel Floraki and conductor André de Ridder, devoted to crossing the borders of classical and modern music. They’re just as happy collaborating with Matthew Herbert or Boards of Canada as Fugazi and appearing on Boiler Room as the BBC Proms.  Or, indeed, appearing behind the decks, which is where they’ve created this exclusive mix of favourites and collaborators just for Juno Daily.  Expect a session that’s like their name – s p a c e d  o u t.

Formed in Berlin and Amsterdam in 2012, they’ve since worked with Terry Riley, Steve Reich, John Cale, Bill Frisell, Nils Frahm, Poliça, Julia Holter, Villagers, Matthew Herbert, Soap&Skin, IceageThe National, Bon Iver and Anna Calvi and performed works by Mica Levi, Boards Of Canada, Bryce Dessner, Fugazi, and Dirty Projectors’ David Longstreth, and also performed for Boiler Room.

In addition to numerous ongoing projects taking place across rthe globe, the collective released its debut album One at the end of last year on the Transgressive label with a score composed by Tyondai Braxton (Battles), Nik Colk Void (Factory Floor / Carter Tutti Void), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Arone Dyer (Buke+Gase) and Aart Strootman (s t a r g a z e).

Strootman and Merle Scheske joined forces to create this hour long Juno Daily mix, which spans everything from Lykke Li to Patti Smith and Jenny Hval.

Merle says, we kept it as mellow as possible and also included a couple of artists s t a r g a z e have been working with.”
