A new reboot of the OG Moog synth.
Newly released by Moog, the Etherwave Theremin is the latest version of an instrument which harks back to the very earliest days of the Moog brand. Company founder and synth pioneer Bob Moog built his first theremin in the 1940s, aged 14. The history of the unique instrument, which is played without touching it, go all the way back to the 1920s.
Moog’s new Etherwave Theremin is an extremely basic analogue synth of sorts, based around pitch and volume antennae for control, a simple VCA and a ‘heterodyning’ oscillator (a heterodyne is “a signal frequency that is created by combining or mixing two other frequencies using a signal processing technique called heterodyning,” according to Wikipedia). The result? A compellingly beautiful sound which you play by waving your hands near the instrument. You can see and hear it in action above.
The Moog Etherwave Theremin is in stock now, priced at £849.
