Korg Volca FM gets a major update
The FM groovebox gets more voices, new sequencer features and built-in reverb.
Korg have announced a significant update to the Volca FM synth groovebox. Heavily inspired by the classic Yamaha DX7 of the 1980s, the Volca FM is an affordable take on FM synthesis, with all the hands-on fun we’ve come to expect from the Volca series.
The MKII version doubles the polyphony to six voices and gets 64 new patches, but the changes run much deeper. The sequencer has been tweaked, with a new one-touch randomisation option and the ability to chain patterns. The new TRS MIDI input and output allow you to sequence other instruments from the Volca and vice versa (the original only had MIDI in). Finally, the chorus effect of the original model is joined by a new shimmer reverb. You can check out the new features and hear the synth’s distinctive sound in the video above.
The Korg Volca FM 2 is expected to arrive next month, price TBC.
