Ploy is to launch his new label Deaf Test with a new EP on November 19.
The ‘Rayhana’ EP marks new territory for Ploy AKA Sam Smith, after the the cerebral, industrial deep dive of his debut album Unlit Signals. Drawing from wider influences, twisting Baile funk, broken beat and hi-tech bass music, it’s already getting DJ support from Ben UFO, Surgeon, Simo Cell, Call Super, Batu and Pearson Sound.
Smith has shared the title track from the three track EP…
Smith says of the new label: “it’s a vehicle for my personal output now. I have more club-focussed music on the way, and I’ll be exploring meaningful collaborations too. The name is due to me being deaf in one ear from an early age.”
In August this year Ploy launched a new night – also called Deaf Test – at London’s MOT Unit 18, where he was accompanied by Parris and Silvia Kastel for an in-demand event, which sold out fast, despite the fact DJs were kept secret until the night. “I’m keeping guests under-wraps to build a party that isn’t reliant on headliners to shift tickets, but is based on trust in quality, with a regular community that come regardless of knowing who’s playing”,
Forthcoming club dates for Ploy:
- 5th Nov – Club Night Club – New York
- 6th Nov – Autonomy – Miami
- 20th Nov – The Cause – London
- 26th Nov – Mutabor – Moscow
- 4th Dec – Deaf Test, MOT Unit 18 – London
