Heavenly Recordings announce first two Heavenly Remixes collections
Underworld, Monkey Mafia and Andy Votel among the remix squad
Heavenly Recordings have announced details of ‘Heavenly Remixes Vol 1 & 2’ – a pair of compilations documenting some of the label’s go-to remixes made by their own artists during their 30-year history. The first of the new albums is scheduled for release on Friday December 10.
According to Heavenly’s founders, the label was “all but founded on the art of the remix”, in a British musical era reeling from the fallout of acid house. Following the death of label mainstay DJ Andrew Weatherall last year – who remixed the first ever Heavenly release – the label’s heads have since reminisced on their large catalogue, culminating in the new compilations. A full collection of Weatherall’s, mixes for the label is also in the pipeline.
The classic tracks on Vol. 1 range from remixees Saint Etienne, Espiritu, Simon Aldred and Moonflowers, and remixers including Underworld, Richard Norris, Mother, and Mark Lusardi.
Additionally, many of Heavenly’s current roster appear on the compilation, including Yorkshire’s Working Men’s Club remixing themselves as Minsky Rock, and DJ Parrot and Jarvis Cocker remixing Baxter Dury’s ‘Miami’.
Both volumes will be released on both vinyl and CD, with Vol. 1 set to be released on December 10, 2021.
