Wiley charged with burglary and assault
Grime godfather arrested at Forest Gate flat
Wiley, the self-styled godfather of grime, has been charged with assault and burglary according to police.
A report in a leading broadsheet claims the charges have come as a result of an incident in which the producer and rapper – real name Richard Kylea Cowie Jr – is alleged to have broken into the home of a friend, kickboxer Ali Jacko in East London on August 28.
He is due to appear at Thames magistrates court on September 13.
Police say they were called to a flat in Forest Gate at around 10pm on Saturday August 28,
A statement said: “Officers attended the location. It was alleged that a man had entered the flat, assaulted the occupant and caused criminal damage to property. The man was arrested and taken into custody.”
Wiley, who was honoured with an MBE in 2018, is well known for his lengthy solo career, including albums for XL and Ninja Tune. as well as a close association with Dizzee Rascal and the Roll Deep crew.
