Oskar Offerman’s WHITE to close

A Friends & Values compilation will act as the final chapter after nearly a decade of output.

“We are actually shutting down the label this year. There is only one more big compilation coming, with many of the key artists on it,” Oskar Offerman told RA in the interview accompanying his podcast earlier this year. Conformation of the fated release has now officially arrived with Offerman calling the 10-track Friends & Values compilation a “thank you” to everyone that’s supported WHITE over the years. The label was launched with Adam Zawadzki in 2007 with a run of split 12″s almost immortalised by the black and white portrait shots adorning the covers which went on to somewhat define the label’s aesthetic. Artists like Edward, Kareem and Offerman himself dominated the label’s releases over the years while other notable contributors came from Tristen, Nu and Julius Steinhoff to WHITE’s second wave of names in Cleveland, Slovenia’s Vid Vai and Philipp Boston.

In 2012 WHITE released both Edward and Offerman’s debut albums, Teupitz and Do Pilots Still Dream Of Flying? Both remained the label’s only long playing releases, while aside from split and solo 12″s, the Tied Together various artist EP featuring Oskar Offermann & Moomin, Tristen and Edward was WHITE’s only other comprehensive release. Split across two 12″s and a 7″, this Friends & Values compilation provides WHITE with its most extensive release to date, opened by new Hivern Discs signing Cleveland and closed by Edward’s beatless number “Planets”. A final statement by WHITE reads: “This will be the final release of WHITE. After almost 10 years of releasing music on WHITE we decided to move on and to end this era. We like to thank all our artists, fans and people behind the scenes who were involved and hope this release will make for an appropriate goodbye. See you somewhere in some galaxy sometime… yours Oskar and Adam.”

WHITE will release the Friends and Values compilation in September.
