Hear Joy Orbison’s tape mix for Rush Hour
The 45-minute session originates from an ADE promo cassette that also features Hessle Audio pair Ben UFO and Pearson Sound.
As is customary every year, Rush Hour call on a revered cast of DJs to spin records at their cosy Spuistraat shop for a series of ins-stores during Amsterdam Dance Event. This year saw Joy Orbison, Four Tet, Ben UFO and Pearson Sound gather behind the RH decks and rotary mixer on the Thursday evening, treating the assembled crowd to a “super diverse set, taking it from EBM to digital reggae” – more info and pics at the label’s website. Ahead of this appearance, Joy Orbison, Ben UFO and Pearson Sound collaborated on a limited cassette mixtape that was sold on the night at Rush Hour, with the Sunklo man providing the A-side and the Hessle Audio pair trading records on the B-side.
In an act of kindness, Joy Orbison has now uploaded his 45 minute set to SoundCloud for all to enjoy. The mix evidently offered Joy O the opportunity to dig through the corners of his collection you might not hear in the club, spanning everything from Sabres of Paradise to Robert Turman via Kate Bush and UB40.
