LNS debuts on 1080p
One of Vancouver’s best selectors makes her bow as a producer with the upcoming Maligne Range tape – stream a track here.
One of the stickiest subjects in electronic music right now is the ongoing lack of exposure for female DJs, producers, musicians and how to remedy it. Platforms such as verymalelineups choose to tackle the issue head on, calling out club promoters whose events veer heavily towards male DJs. There is clearly no one way to redress the balance, but labels like 1080p should be applauded for the many female artists they’ve worked with to date, and the quiet manner in which they’ve done it. Celebration of music talent remains the focus as opposed to scoring gender points.
A first glimpse at what 1080p has planned for next year sees the Vancouver label act as a platform for a local DJ to make her bow as a producer. Those who regularly tune into Trushmix will be well aware of the selecting talents of LNS, whose 90-minute mix published last month is one of the best the Fett Burger-run site has put out this year. According to our sources, Laura ‘LNS’ Sparrow is highly regarded in the Vancouver region for her DJing, and she’s set to get the chance to transpose these skills to productions for the first time with the six-track Maligne Range tape for 1080p due in January.
Taking titular inspiration from the nearby mountain range in the Canadian Rockies, Sparrow’s brand of moody electro has an emphasis on melody and simplification that should draw comparisons with cult Drexciya side project The Other People Place. We are happy to offer a first taste of the LNS sound in the shape of “Minas” which you can stream below.
1080p will release Maligne Range by LNS on January 23.
