Music From Memory go for a Dip In The Pool
The Amsterdam label will issue a blissful slice of late ’80s Japanese pop on 12″ next year – preview here.
Launched earlier this year, Music From Memory’s 12″ series has been a fine addition to their programme of album length retrospectives with both the Joel Graham and Michal Turtle records fine discoveries. With the album of post-modern Philly funk from Napoleon Cherry their final release of the year, the Amsterdam label have let slip details of their first 12″ endeavour of 2016 which presents some late ’80s Japanese pop gold by Dip In The Pool. Formed of Miyako Koda and Tatsuji Kim, Dip In The Pool are still active today, though their upcoming alliance with Music From Memory puts the focus on the West and East versions of “On Retinae” that bookended the 1989 album Retinae.
In light of the Mariah reissue from Palto Flats , the Soichi Terada compilation on Rush Hour, and EM Records ongoing archival endeavours, cynics might say the upcoming On Retinae is on trend. Cynics begone! The below previews prove both versions of “On Retinae” fully deserve a first 12″ pressing and suggest Music From Memory have scored an early contender for reissue of 2016.
