Boxed gets physical

The London grime collective will release their first 12″ next month with contributions from Slackk, Spokes and Geenus.

Under the stewardship of residents Slackk, Mr. Mitch, Oil Gang and Logos, London collective Boxed has developed into a roving home to promote the newest strains of instrumental grime with their nights featuring the likes of Finn, Murlo, JT the Goon, and Yamaneko. As Boxed has grown, the collective has swelled into a label of sorts with a pair of digital compilations issued over the past two years. The most recent featuring some 20 tracks from an international cast of instrumental grime contemporaries, with Rabit, Dark0, Murlo, Strict Face and veteran Spooky all contributing.

Next month will see Boxed enter the physical realm with a split 12″, titled simply BOXED001 which aims to “showcase the breadth of styles that the night represents.” Slackk collaborates with Dullah Beatz, a contributor to both Boxed compilations, on opener “Forest Walk”, whilst grime classic “Old Skool 2″ from Geenus is given a remix from Mean Street Records founder Trends. All four tracks can be previewed below, with the 12” available to pre-order direct from Boxed.

Boxed will release BOXED001 on December 18.
