Tropic of Cancer return
Blackest Ever Black will release a new three track 12″ from Camella Lobo along with a record collecting her early Downwards material.
One of the most exciting aspects regarding I Can’t Give You The Life You Want, a US-only Blackest Ever Black compilation that has been delayed for much of 2015 was the presence of some new material from Camella Lobo’s Tropic Of Cancer project. The track in question, “I Woke Up And The Storm Was Over”, represented the first new music from Lobo since the release of her excellent debut LP Restless Idylls and those jonesing for further fresh Tropic Of Cancer music will be heartened by the news the label plans to issue a new single from Lobo in October.
Entitled Stop Suffering, the three-track 12″ extends Lobo’s talents for crafting romantic, fatalistic ballads drenched in sadness with the artist claiming “disappointing yourself and others…burning your own house down…temporary feelings with permanent consequence” are some of the themes covered. The aforementioned “I Woke Up And The Storm Was Over” appears on this single in a slightly different mix to the one present on that BEB compilation. You can get a taste of the upcoming single yourself on the below video for haunting lead track “Stop Suffering” whilst the label reveal a second Tropic Of Cancer album is planned for release next year.
Due out at the same time as Stop Suffering is Archive: The Downwards Singles, a self-explanatory 12″ which collects the three original tracks Lobo recorded as Tropic Of Cancer in the band’s original iteration with Juan Mendez. Issued across two DO 10″s on Downwards and highly-prized these days, they will be presented on a new 12″ featuring new artwork from Silent Editions.
Blackest Ever Black will release Stop Suffering and Archive: The Downwards Singles by Tropic Of Cancer on October 30.
