Earthen Sea signs off his debut LP for Lovers Rock

Ink is the first album from Jacob Long’s woozy ambient techno project for Ital’s label.

To date Lovers Rock may have only released seven different EPs, but a strong sense of aesthetic identity has already taken shape around the New York label. Daniel ‘Ital’ Martin-McCormick clearly has a specific vision in mind with his pet project, and the other contributors beside himself have all been a mere stones throw away, from Aurora Halal to Damon Palermo and Earthen Sea. The latter, more formally known as Jacob Long, has had plenty of airtime on the label, joining Martin-McCormick for the very first release back in 2008 in the band Mi Ami and more recently the pair’s Sleeper Cell project, described recently by Juno Plus writer Brendan Arnott as, “a powerful series of musical movements that stay with you long after the record ends.” You can ready more about the motivations behind the Sleeper Cell record here, but meanwhile Long has been no slouch on his solo material either.

As RA reports, Long will follow a strong bed of cassette releases and the Mirage EP for Lovers Rock with a debut Earthen Sea album for Martin-McCormick’s label called Ink which is due next month. The eight-track album is described as “impressionistic dreamscape of American life” and was crafted in Long’s West Coast home base of operations. Ink will come with artwork designed by Long himself, including a limited run of 50 copies with a hand-painted finish for the avid collectors out there. To get a feel for the atmosphere Earthen Sea inhabits, check out the “Summer 2015 Mix” he put together below.

Lovers Rock will release Ink by Earthen Sea in mid-September.
