Wen explores the Senary Cycles
A new doublepack from the UK producer will arrive on Soundman Chronicles next month.
Kent-based Owen Darby got his breakthrough as Wen via Keysound Recordings, first surfacing on the label with the Commotion EP in early 2013 and later serving up a conceptual debut album in the shape of Signals. A reverential set that felt quite at home on Keysound, Signals was quite an ambitious endeavour for such a young producer and its no surprise to see the Wen sound disseminate through other labels. The recent Finesse EP for Tectonic can be seen as quite a landmark for Wen and followed releases for Wisdom Teeth and Tempa, with the latter a split 12″ alongside Parris DJ.
As FACT report, the relationship between Wen and Parris DJ will be further strengthened with the news the latter’s Soundman Chronicles label will issue a six-track Senary Circles double pack next month. A press release from the label states the release finds Darby working with a new found freedom and “captures the club-focussed, sub-frequency heavy essence of Wen’s sound, and refracts it in new, exciting directions.” You can stream the chiming “She Giv” from the EP below via FACT.
Soundman Chronicles will release the Senary Cycles EP by Wen on July 20.
