New Vakula album on the way

A Voyage To Arcturus is due ‘soon’ and is inspired by David Lindsay’s 1920 book of the same name.

Though Ukranian house mystic Mikhaylo Vityk has dropped a couple of 12″s on the Bandura label this year, the name Vakula certainly doesn’t feel quite like the prolific presence it was between 2011 and 2013. During this period Vityk appeared on many house labels worth their salt, mixed one of our most memorable podcasts and even found time to record an album for Dekmantel under the Vedomir alias. With his 2013 album for Firecracker, You’ve Never Been To Konotop (Selected Works 2009-2012), more a gathering of unreleased material than proper long player, news of a new LP from the Ukrainian is most welcome.

As Resident Advisor report, Vityk has recorded a sixteen-track album that takes its inspiration from A Voyage To Arcturus, the novel by Scottish writer David Lindsay published in 1920. Literary inspiration is nothing new for Vityk, the Shevchenko label he’s involved in takes it’s name from Ukrainian cultural icon Taras Shevchenko, and each of the track titles on this new album takes its name from chapters of Lindsay’s book. RA quote Vityk as stating the release is “more like a soundtrack” than album proper, with the release date still unclear.

A Voyage To Arcturus by Vakula is ‘due soon’ on Leleka.
