Akai reveals AMX and AFX controllers for Serato DJ
The first Akai products for Serato DJ are designed to utilise the software’s new DVS Expansion Pack and Serato Flip features.
While Native Instruments’ Traktor software isn’t short of bespoke hardware control options, Serato DJ is still reasonably limited, with most of the options being all-in-one controllers or expensive mixers. However, recent news from Akai suggests that this is about to change. Evidently building on their experience with their new MPC software and custom controllers for Ableton Live, Akai has now announced details of its first foray into the world of Serato DJ control, two units designed to be used both as standalone units or as part of a modular controller system.
The AMX mixer is designed to be used with Serato DJ’s recently announced DVS Expansion Pack, and offers a compact two-channel mixer and audio interface for Serato DJ with two sets of phono and line inputs. The USB powered device also comes with all the relevant EQ and filter controls, and the inputs can be used to route external audio sources into Serato DJ. The AFX controller features nine touch-activated knobs and eight backlit velocity-sensitive pads, and is designed to offer control over Serato DJ’s extensive features including effects, cue points and loops. Most notably, the controller is designed to make to most of Serato DJ’s new Serato Flip feature, allowing the creation custom edits on the fly. Both devices can be seen in action via the video below.
Akai will release the AMX and AFX this autumn at a price of £179.99 and £139.99 respectively.
