Debut Moiré album due on Werkdiscs
The vaguely shadowy producer will drop his debut long player Shelter in August via the Werkdiscs label.
Brandishing an approach to techno that can best be described as muggy, Moiré surfaced early last year with the Never Sleep 12″, a record that felt wholly suited to the revived Werkdiscs label overseen by Darren ‘Actress’ Cunningham. A brief dalliance with Rush Hour followed in the shape of the three-track Rolx EP, but Moiré’s association with Werkdiscs was strengthened earlier this month with the announcement of BBOY 202, another 12″ through the label that continued the musician’s preference for optically unnerving artwork clearly influenced by the pattern that inspired his name.
Evidently this 12″ was just another prelude to something more substantial from Moiré, with Werkdiscs revealing plans to issue his debut album later this summer. Entitled Shelter, the nine-track album consists of entirely new Moiré material and brandishes some cover art that will cause a few headaches. A typically obtuse press release issued via parent label Ninja Tune today explains that the title “describes the listeners perception and subsequent emotional response to a collection of sounds and motifs,” whilst the album as a whole draws “themes from his earlier productions together with newer elements to form a complete concept”. Those wishing for an advance taste of what to expect can preview album track “No Gravity” over at Spin.
Werkdiscs will release Shelter by Moiré on August 18.
