Delroy Edwards releases Slowed Down Funk Vol. 1

The producer indulges his love of hip hop with a free mixtape of chopped and screwed tracks.

Although L.A. Club Resource boss Delroy Edwards might have first emerged on L.I.E.S. with a clutch of 12″s exploring ghetto house styles, and his Teenage Tapes release on The Death of Rave may have shown his interest in noise, he’s also known as a fan of hip hop. Last year’s podcast for XLR8R featured several tracks that lowered the tempo, while a frontline Twitter report from Resident Advisor’s Andrew Ryce suggested that Edwards recently laid down an all-90s West Coast rap set in Vancouver to much confusion.

Today Edwards formalised his interest in the genre with the release of Slowed Down Funk Vol. 1, a free 20-track mixtape filled with crunked up hip hop edits taking its cues from the chopped and screwed technique pioneered by the late Houston figure DJ Screw. Interested parties can stream the instrumental track “Jammin Tape” below, and the whole thing can be downloaded for free here.

Slowed Down Funk Vol. 1 is out now on L.A. Club Resource.
