Gunnar Haslam joins Mister Saturday Night

MSNTEN001 Let A Hundred Flowers Bloom will be the producer’s first appearance on the Brooklyn label.

Across releases for L.I.E.S. and Argot, low-key producer Gunnar Haslam has shown himself to be one of the more idiosyncratic of the current wave of US producers making swampy house and techno; his impressive debut album Mimesiak added flourishes of ethnic percussion and ghostly vocal samples amongst his more alien electronic textures, while he has recently collaborated with Tin Man under the Romans moniker. Given the equally wide-ranging approach of Justin Carter and Eamon Harkin’s Mister Saturday Night label, news of a 10″ single from Gunnar Haslam – who is apparently a regular at the Brooklyn parties of the same name – makes for a perfect union.

The link-up was initially hinted at last month when news of Mister Saturday Night’s Brothers And Sisters collection surfaced with two Gunnar Haslam productions on the tracklisting. Let A Hundred Flowers Bloom will be the label’s first dalliance with the 10″ format, and from the sound of the clips below, sees Haslam in a more experimental frame of mind than that seen on his recent L.I.E.S. 12″, with three tracks exploring drone and industrial rhythms that bring the music of Emptyset and Samuel Kerridge to mind.

Mister Saturday Night will release Let A Hundred Flowers Bloom on 10″ vinyl on June 2.
