Listen to Jaime Williams’ mix for Contort
Hear a mix from one half of the Diagonal Records team in preparation for the Berlin party in May.
Although much of the focus around the running of the excellent Diagonal Records revolves around Powell, whose combination of no wave influences and techno have created some of the strangest dance music of recent years, few people know that he is assisted in the A&R and general label running by his friend Jaime Williams. If you’ve graced Williams’ Marbella Returns SoundCloud page you’ll know he’s just as inspired a selector as the towering Powell, with great mixes of old jungle, hardcore, D&B and reggae and his latest has been put together in advance of the next Contort party.
With the line-up for the May 1 event in Berlin still under wraps, we can only speculate Williams is amongst the names set to play, and this mix pretty much enscapulates the Contort ethos, taking in some recent Diagonal Records material, classic jungle, noisy fusions from Demdike Stare and Contort co-founder Samuel Kerridge, and even Green Velvet. It’s as wild a ride as the party’s reputation suggests it is – listen and download it below.
